AUC students pose with their glow-in-the-dark concrete

A sustainable solution proposed by undergraduates in AUC’s Department of Construction Engineering as their graduation project, self-luminous concrete may provide an energy-efficient alternative to light up roads and pavements. The concrete, made of locally available materials with illumination properties, works by trapping light from the sun and then emitting it at night. Supervised by Professor Mohamed Nagib Abou-Zeid, the four alumnae — Fatma Elnefaly ’22, Mayar Khairy ’22, Zeinab Mahmoud ’22 and Menna Soliman ’22 — were honored by Egypt’s former Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar.
